I want to use a HDMI cable.

Step 4 - Configure this solution.

Simply plug the HDMI cable into your laptop's HDMI output and then to your HD TV's HDMI input. Set the TV to the HDMI input and turn on the laptop. The computer should now be displaying on the TV.

You may have to set the audio to output through the HDMI output on your laptop computer by selecting that option in the audio properties control panel on your computer. Consult the manual for your laptop computer for specifics on how to do this.  

Depending on your HD TV and your laptop computer you will be able to set either a 720 or 1080 resolution. Consult the manuals that came with your laptop computer and HD TV to set it to the optimal resolution.
