Step 3. What type of video output does your laptop have?

Look on the back and sides of your laptop computer to see what type of video outputs are available. Laptop computers will have at least a VGA or S-Video output. Some newer laptops may have a DVI or HDMI output. Apple laptops will have a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt output.

Mini DisplayPort / Thunderbolt - Most commonly found on Apple computers but can also be found on some Windows PCs and after market video cards. For the technical details follow this link to Wikipedia

HDMI - High-Definition Multimedia Interface. For the technical details follow this link to Wikipedia. Newer laptops may have a HDMI output.

DVI - Digital Visual Interface. Read all about it here. Some newer laptops have DVI outputs.

VGA. Video Graphics Array. Read all about it here. Most laptop computers will have one of these.
